Separate agency action from criminal court

A motor-vehicle agency may suspend or revoke driving privileges based on an arrest, test result, refusal allegation, conviction, or another event defined by state law. The criminal judge and license agency may be deciding different questions.

Documents to locate

  • Driver-license agency notice
  • Date the notice was served or mailed
  • Temporary or restricted-license document if any
  • Hearing request/confirmation
  • Court disposition if later required by the agency
  • Insurance or interlock paperwork only when the jurisdiction requires it

Questions to answer from the notice

  • Which agency controls the Dui License Suspension issue?
  • What deadline is printed on the notice, and how is a hearing or review requested?
  • Is the administrative license matter separate from the criminal court case?
  • What documents are needed for any restricted-driving or reinstatement request?
  • What event or document ends, changes, or extends the license action?

Do not guess the deadline

Administrative hearing windows can be short and state-specific. Use the actual notice and current agency rules, and contact local counsel promptly when a deadline may be close.
